The rooftop pool and wrought iron balustrade at The Elite Thong Lor 25

Gallery

The building, honestly photographed

No wide angle tricks and no borrowed stock. This is the apartment you get, the roof you get and the front door you walk through. Twenty nine photographs, in seven chapters.

The pool edge. On a weekday morning there is usually nobody else up here.

Facade

3 photographs

01 The building from the soi. Grab cars pick up at the gate.
02 The front elevation. The awnings shade the west facing windows from the middle of the afternoon.
03 The entrance. The gold tuk tuk parked by the door is part of the furniture, and stays where it is.

Reception

2 photographs

04 Reception. The numerals on the doors run two to eight, one for each apartment above.
05 The lift lobby. The lift serves every apartment floor; the roof is a flight of stairs above the eighth.

Living

4 photographs

06 Living and dining, run together. You arrive through a foyer rather than into a bedroom.
07 The living room in the morning. This side of the soi is the quiet side.
08 From the dining end. Five or six people sit down here without anybody perching.
09 A bedroom door open off the living room, which is how families use it after lunch.

Kitchen

3 photographs

10 The kitchen. Guests staying a month say breakfast at home is what makes the month work.
11 The kitchen opens to the living room, so the cook is not shut away from everyone.
12 Six at the table. It is a desk from nine until six for anyone here to work.

Bedrooms

6 photographs

13 The master, with a king bed and its own bathroom through the closet.
14 Monogrammed linen, which is the thing guests photograph on the first morning.
15 From the doorway. Blackout curtains, and air conditioning you set for that room alone.
16 The second bedroom takes a queen bed, not a sofa bed, which is why groups book here.
17 A desk in the second bedroom, for the guest whose calls start at seven.
18 A television in the bedroom as well, for the afternoon nobody wants to go out in.

Marble

5 photographs

19 The rain shower, with a window. Two bathrooms means no queue at eight in the morning.
20 The bath is in the second bathroom. Parents with small children ask for this one.
21 Marble, and a vanity with room to put things down, which hotels forget.
22 The walk in closet. A month of clothes lives here instead of on the floor.
23 The dressing table, lit properly, between the bedroom and the bathroom.

Rooftop

6 photographs

24 The rooftop pool looking west at about half past six, which is when most guests go up.
25 The pool runs the length of the roof, and is quiet on weekday mornings.
26 The balustrade at the pool edge, and Thong Lor going about its business below.
27 The spouts run in the evening, and are the loudest thing on the roof.
28 A table in the shade beside the pool, for a coffee at eight or a beer at seven.
29 The view north over Thong Lor. On a clear evening you can see as far as Ekkamai.
The full length rooftop swimming pool at The Elite Thong Lor 25

The pool runs the length of the roof, and is quiet on weekday mornings.
