Most people who end up at Bang Sare were looking at Pattaya and wanted something quieter. That is the honest summary. It is the same coastline, twenty minutes further down, and the difference in what a day feels like is larger than twenty minutes ought to buy.
Where it is
Bang Sare, also spelled Bang Saray, sits on the Gulf coast in Sattahip district, Chon Buri, roughly fifteen to twenty kilometres south of central Pattaya and south of Jomtien along the Sukhumvit road. In a car that is about twenty to twenty five minutes from the middle of Pattaya, traffic permitting.
It is not a resort strip that was built to be one. It is a working fishing village that people started staying in.
What the village is actually like
There is a real pier, and boats still go out from it at dusk. The seafood restaurants near the pier are the reason a lot of people drive down from Pattaya for an evening. There is a morning market that starts around half past five, a temple market on Wednesday evenings, and a walking street market on Saturday evenings.
The beach runs about three kilometres, curves gently, and is at its widest near the village at the southern end. The water is calm most of the year. It is not island water and nobody should tell you it is, but you can see the bottom in the shallows and it is a long way from the jet ski traffic further north.

- U-Tapao airport — 18 km
Khao Chi Chan, the Buddha Mountain, is a few kilometres further south again.
Bang Sare, Jomtien or central Pattaya?
A fair way to choose.
- Central Pattaya if the nightlife and the shopping are the point of the trip, and you want to walk to them.
- Jomtien if you want a long beach with plenty of restaurants and bars on it, but a calmer version of Pattaya, and you still want everything within a short ride.
- Bang Sare if you would rather cook some nights, swim in the morning without an audience, eat seafood by a fishing pier in the evening, and drive the twenty minutes north on the day you actually want Pattaya.
The one honest warning: Bang Sare is quiet in a way that some people find is too quiet. If you want to walk out of the door at eleven at night and find a bar full of people, this is the wrong end of the coast, and Jomtien is the compromise.
Getting here
U-Tapao airport is the closest at 18 km, which suits anyone flying in domestically or on a regional flight. From Bangkok most guests drive or take a car down the motorway. Arrival times are not a problem here in any case: our villa is self check in with a lockbox, so a late flight simply means letting yourself in.
Who it suits
Families who want a pool the children can use without anyone else in it. Couples who want the coast without the crowd. Two couples travelling together, which is what a king bedroom and a twin bedroom is really built for. And people working remotely for a week or two who want a desk, fast wifi, a kitchen and somewhere to swim between calls.
